Guess where my taste buds led me today? Straight to Boondocks Fish Camp & BBQ nestled in Gray Court, South Carolina. If you haven't heard of it yet, you're in for a delightful surprise!
Owned by the dynamic duo, Christian and Christine Perry, formerly of Wagon Wheel Fish Camp in Cowpens, South Carolina, this gem emerged from the ashes of a fire that consumed their previous establishment last spring. In September 2022, they breathed new life into a dormant building at 1955 Trinity Church Rd, and let me tell you, folks, it's a must-visit.
The moment you step in, you're greeted with breathtaking views and a cozy ambiance that perfectly complements the cuisine. Trust me, the food here is beyond compare.
Their seafood dishes transport you straight to the South Carolina coast with every savory bite. The flavors are authentic and will have you craving more with each mouthful.
I couldn't get enough of their pork hash over grits, succulent ribs, and divine Calabash Chicken. And let's talk about their homemade sauces – Carolina Gold, Sweet Red, and Sweet Heat – they're all fantastic, but the Sweet Heat is a game-changer. Whether you're dipping shrimp, fish, or barbecue, it's a flavor explosion you won't soon forget.
But wait, there's more! The Firecracker Shrimp special tonight was an absolute knockout. Encased in a crispy wonton wrapper, each bite was a culinary revelation.
And dessert? The Strawberry Cake was pure perfection. Chef Jason Smith, if you're reading this, you've got to visit them!
In a 2017 interview, Christian mentioned "follow your heart," and they've done just that. Their passion for food didn't go up in smoke with their previous restaurant. Instead, it found a new home where patrons can savor their culinary creations and keep coming back for more.
I'm immensely grateful for tonight's dinner and the opportunity to meet the Perrys. Now it's your turn to experience the magic of Boondocks Fish Camp & BBQ.
Let's #gotoyournomnomplace, be #culinaryencouragers, and support these folks and many others who don't let their passion for serving great food go up in flames
